What problems can NewAccess help me address?

Your mental health coach can help you learn practical ways to manage problems such as:

  • managing stress and anxiety, such as work stress, anxiety about your study, or worrying too much about things
  • worrying about real or potential financial concerns
  • navigating big changes in life, like becoming a parent, losing a loved one, changing a job or school, or becoming a carer
  • Feel low or unmotivated when life gets tough, and finding it harder to do the things you normally do
  • Feeling anxious when talking to other people and worried that they might judge you

If you are in a crisis, or you would like to see a psychiatrist or psychologist, NewAccess isn't the right program for you. It is best to talk to a GP where you can be referred to another South Western Sydney PHN funded mental health service that matches your needs or consider the support options on the Beyond Blue Get Mental Health Support page.

If you need urgent help you can find someone to talk to you right now through Beyond Blue. You can also call or chat to Lifeline on 13 11 14. If you or someone else is in immediate danger call 000.

How does it work?

Once we've checked your eligibility you'll be matched to a Mental Health coach who will meet with you weekly, for up to six sessions, either on the phone or by video call

At the first session, you'll discuss the main issue you would like to focus on and finish with a plan on how you can try and address it together. this might will include ideas you can try during the week to feel better

Each week, you'll review what's working and what you can try next. And at any time your coach can help you access other support, if the coaching is not working for you

Who can enquire?

You may be eligible for NewAccess SWS if you are:

  • overwhelmed or struggling with life issues such as relationships, study, feeling lonely, work problems, or financial stress
  • Over 12 years old (people under 16 will require parental consent)
  • living in the South Western Sydney area (based on your postcode)
  • not currently seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist
